Business Owners

If you are a business owner who is interacting with someone who is experiencing  homelessness

If someone is trespassing ask them to leave using sincere, empathetic language that deflects the request from yourself to a third party( e.g. "The property owner wants you to leave", even if that person is you).  This reduces the power dynamic and will help future interactions.  When possible deescalate disruptive situations. Try and avoid confrontations and maintain a safe distance.

Call the non-emergency police number 405-321-1444 if someone is trespassing, refuses to leave your business or breaks the law.  The police may not be able to respond to non-emergency calls but there will be a record of the interaction.  These records are needed to have complete data for public policy solutions.

Call 911 if someone is threatening harm to themselves or others or acting violently.

If you believe someone is having a mental health breakdown or is in a mental health crisis, please call 988.  This number will be answered by a mental health crisis worker and a team can be dispatched to do an evaluation.
